Distinguished Songwriters Series – Trey Bruce

Presented by the Booth Writers Guild, the Distinguished Songwriter Series is a quarterly program hosted by singer-songwriter Scott Thompson that brings top Nashville songwriters to talk about their writing process, current projects and will also sing a few of their songs. Trey Bruce has written ten number one singles on the billboard including, “Whisper My Name” by Randy Travis, “How Your Love Makes Me Feel” by Diamond Rio and “A Little Bit of You” by Lee Roy Parnell among others. He has also co-written numerous singles for other artists, including Faith Hill, Leann Rimes, Trisha Yearwood, Trace Adkins, Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood. Writers Guild Members $5, Booth Members $10, not-yet-members $15.

Art for Lunch: Brad Quinlin – “My First Steps of Freedom” Civil War Program

Brad Quinlin speaks on “My First Steps of Freedom,” the story of men of African descent who were slaves in Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi. During the Civil War these men were enlisted in White regiments as undercooks. Our guest speaker Brad, has a remarkable biography that covers his years of research, TV shows, movies, reenactor, and more! Also watch the unveiling of Gregory Christie’s remarkable painting that will hang in the Museum’s War is Hell Gallery. This painting depicts the day Harriet Tubman, under the command of Union Colonel James Montgomery, became the first woman to lead a military operation in the United States. On June 2, 1863 Harriet and 150 African American Union soldiers rescued more than 700 slaves in the Combahee Ferry Raid in South Carolina. Evening Lecture with R. Gregory Christie on June 15. R. Gregory Christie is an award-winning children’s book illustrator and lecturer with a long track record of creating inspiring art. He is an NAACP Image award winner and was the artist for the United Postal Service’s “Kwanzaa Stamp” in 2013. He has done everything from designing John Coltrane album covers to animating films on Netflix.

Evening Lecture with artists Jane Hunt and Michele Usibelli. Hunt’s award-winning paintings have been exhibited at notable galleries and museums internationally. Now based in Colorado, she frequently paints plein air and continues to be awed by the beauty surrounding her. Working primarily in oils, Michele Usibelli is an award-winning artist who also enjoys acrylics, gouache and pastels. Her work has been shown in both group and solo gallery exhibitions as well as regional, national and international juried exhibitions.
