3-Day Portrait Workshop with Artist Myron Sahlberg / “Launching a Successful Portrait Painting”
Wednesday, June 2 – Friday, June 4, 2027
9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Without a good start nothing else matters. If you are at the dawn of your oil portrait painting adventure or frustrated with your present attempts, Myron will guide you through a practical, no frills, no-nonsense, very attainable approach to painting a portrait from your own photo reference. You will be introduced to practical skills he’s acquired from his 45 plus years as an illustrator and portrait painter; how he creates his own photo reference and how to successfully get started in your painting. You will leave with the what, when, how and why in starting a portrait panting. No mysteries, no fancy equipment, no difficult technology, no pretense, just the plain sense of it all. Myron is committed to mapping out the basics of preparing a successful start in a portrait painting. We will NOT be painting in full color, but rather a monochromatic (burnt umber) under painting or it may be called a value study painting. Myron will show you several examples of his study and finished paintings to help you understand why a good start is so important in the success of an oil portrait painting.
