Brad Quinlin speaks on “My First Steps of Freedom,” the story of men of African descent who were slaves in Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi. During the Civil War these men were enlisted in White regiments as undercooks. Our guest speaker Brad, has a remarkable biography that covers his years of research, TV shows, movies, reenactor, and more! This painting depicts the day Harriet Tubman, under the command of Union Colonel James Montgomery, became the first woman to lead a military operation in the United States. On June 2, 1863 Harriet and 150 African American Union soldiers rescued more than 700 slaves in the Combahee Ferry Raid in South Carolina.
