3-Day Workshop with Artist Dan Beck / “A Loose Approach to Painting Figures and Still-Life from Life and Reference”

In this three-day workshop, Dan will focus on a loose, impressionistic approach to painting the subject. Using live model, still-life objects and photographs as inspiration, he will share his approach to capturing light, color, atmosphere and the feeling of a subject. Dan will discuss different ways to “see” through the painter’s language of line, shape, value, color texture and edge. The workshop will help students simplify their intent and learn how to use these six visual elements to give their paintings both direction and a “reason to be.” The workshop will include demonstrations, individual instruction, and group discussions. Dan will give personal attention to each student and encourage artists to move beyond simply copying the subject to create paintings that feel personal, expressive and alive.
Minimum of 8 students, Maximum of 16 students
