3-Day Workshop with Artist Clayton Beck III / “An Alla Prima Approach to Figure Painting”
December 4-6, 9:00 am –4:00 pm

“A review and practice of Richard Schmid’s approach to figure painting from his groundbreaking books on the subject.” Clayton’s aim is to show the story behind what often appears to be an ordinary scene, through painting in front of the subject. Clayton will help students find spontaneity, excitement, and a greater comfort level painting. Students will find answers to questions like: What do I choose? How do I start a painting? When should I stop? Should I take photos? What’s my first move? The colors vary as the light moves…what do I do next?  Clayton will do a demo mixed with personal instruction. Students will also learn about harmony in composition, the colors of light, alla-prima lay-it-and-leave-it brushwork, and the beauty of restraint.  This class is suitable for the confident beginner through advanced painter.

Minimum of 8 students, Maximum of 16 students
FEE:  $400.00 for Booth Museum Members, $475.00 for not-yet-members
