1-Day Pop-Up Workshop with Artist Lori Putnam / “Painting for Artists: Purpose, Planning, and Creativity”
Saturday, June 29
9:00 am –4:00 pm
Lori believes that plein air and studio work go hand-in-hand with becoming a better painter. Lessons learned in one setting naturally benefit the other. A lifelong student herself, Lori will share how this way of thinking and hard work have helped her grow at such a rapid pace. Demonstration, lecture, discussion, and participant exercises will excite you to try new things and get to the easel! Lori will begin by sharing her unique way of seeing the landscape. Watch as she demonstrates her methods for creating dynamic movement, color, and light. Instead of copying, you will be given the tools needed to help you create solid and exciting compositions by editing, simplifying, and becoming the director of your designs. The morning session will be fun, informative, and full of open discussion. After lunch, Lori will guide attendees through a series of free-flowing exercises. Next, using the thoughts and ideas shared in the morning session, you will work through the process of deconstructing and re-building, which she does regularly. Finally, participants will combine their creative, intellectual, and intuitive minds to design future paintings. As time allows, Lori will provide feedback on a few paintings provided by participants to wrap up the day. If you would like to participate in this part of the seminar, you will be asked to email an image to Lori in advance (lori@loriputnam.com). Note: This class is open to any medium.
