SUMMARY:4-Day Studio Landscape Workshop with Artist Kyle Ma
DESCRIPTION:4-Day Studio Landscape Workshop with Artist Kyle Ma\nWednesday – Saturday\, February 26 – March 1\, 2025\n9:00 am –4:00 pm\n \nIn this 4 day workshop students will work on several landscape studies from photos and watch daily demonstrations. The demonstrations will show how to approach various types of landscapes and lighting scenarios. Students will develop a strong understanding of how light behaves and the way light describes form in a landscape. This understanding will be crucial in making a painting appear 3 dimensional. Additionally\, students will also learn how to work around the limitations of photography and create landscape paintings that appear naturalistic. This is an important skill landscape painters must develop when working in the studio.  Students will receive individual attention as they work so the instructor can help address the specific goals each individual has for their work. Therefore this workshop will benefit artists of all levels. \nMinimum of 8 students\, Maximum of 16 students\nFEE:  $575.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $650.00 for not-yet-members \nFor more BAA classes\, CLICK HERE \nCLICK HERE to register. \n

SUMMARY:3-Day “How I Paint – A Process for Creative Flow and Authentic Style” Workshop
DESCRIPTION:3-Day Oil/Acrylic Workshop with Artist Patrick Lee / “How I Paint – A Process for Creative Flow and Authentic Style”\nThursday – Saturday\, February 20 – 22\, 2025\n9:00 am –4:00 pm \nGet to the heart of your authentic work and your personal style by 1) making a lot of work (quantity over quality).  This quiets the internal critic and gives our unique ideas a chance to breathe.   2) Having a deadline.  This is the best antidote to procrastination and “waiting for inspiration”.  3) Focusing on process over product.  See the first two points! Topics will include contour line drawing and memory\, value and its’ use in design and pattern\, use of the Notan in design and creative thought (improvisation)\, solid drawing and values as a basis for “looseness”\, keeping things simple\, subjective color\, breakdown and building back up of the image. I’ll do a demo of a painting for the first half of each day with the students painting the second half of the day. Attendees may use oils or acrylics.  ***Students should bring their own photos to work from. \nMinimum of 8 students\, Maximum of 18 students \nFEE:  $550.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $625.00 for not-yet-members \nREGISTRATION COMING SOON \nFor more BAA classes\, CLICK HERE \nCLICK HERE to register.

SUMMARY:4-Day “Capturing the Essence” Workshop
DESCRIPTION:4-Day Portrait Workshop with Artist Michelle Dunaway / “Capturing the Essence”\nFebruary 10 – 13\, 2025\n9:00 am –4:00 pm \nDuring this four day intensive workshop\, Michelle will lecture\, demonstrate her painting techniques\, and provide one-on-one instruction as students paint from life. The class will focus on Alla Prima painting\, covering everything from composition and color mixing of skin tones to more advanced techniques such as color temperature which gives the visual illusion of the subject receding or coming forward in space.  The beautiful intricacies of edges and brushwork will be a main focus as a way to lead the eye through the composition\, making punctuations in paint and resting spots for the eye. This tool can be observed in nature and portrayed in paint to evoke emotion and rhythms in the painting.  The class will do three paintings over the four days:  two head studies and a two-day pose that covers advanced techniques for capturing a likeness\, painting hands\,  and placing the sitter in an environment.  Michelle will also do a slideshow of her work\, including step-by-step photographs of her more elaborate finished studio work\, while discussing things to keep in mind when taking a study back into the studio to make a completed work for the gallery. Beginners to advanced students are welcome as Michelle will work one-on-one with each student to help them achieve their next level in painting and give students  specific guidance to meet their individual artistic goals. \nMinimum of 8 students\, Maximum of 18 students \nFEE:  $775.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $850.00 for not-yet-members \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:BAA 1-Day “Painting for Artists: Purpose\, Planning\, and Creativity” Workshop
DESCRIPTION:1-Day Pop-Up Workshop with Artist Lori Putnam / “Painting for Artists: Purpose\, Planning\, and Creativity”\nSaturday\, June 29\n9:00 am –4:00 pm\n \nLori believes that plein air and studio work go hand-in-hand with becoming a better painter.  Lessons learned in one setting naturally benefit the other.  A lifelong student herself\, Lori will share how this way of thinking and hard work have helped her grow at such a rapid pace.  Demonstration\, lecture\, discussion\, and participant exercises will excite you to try new things and get to the easel!  Lori will begin by sharing her unique way of seeing the landscape.  Watch as she demonstrates her methods for creating dynamic movement\, color\, and light.  Instead of copying\, you will be given the tools needed to help you create solid and exciting compositions by editing\, simplifying\, and becoming the director of your designs.  The morning session will be fun\, informative\, and full of open discussion.  After lunch\, Lori will guide attendees through a series of free-flowing exercises.  Next\, using the thoughts and ideas shared in the morning session\, you will work through the process of deconstructing and re-building\, which she does regularly.  Finally\, participants will combine their creative\, intellectual\, and intuitive minds to design future paintings.  As time allows\, Lori will provide feedback on a few paintings provided by participants to wrap up the day.  If you would like to participate in this part of the seminar\, you will be asked to email an image to Lori in advance (lori@loriputnam.com).  Note: This class is open to any medium. \nMinimum of 8 students\, Maximum of 16 students \nFEE:  $275.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $350.00 for not-yet-members

SUMMARY:BAA 2-Day Pottery Workshop with Artists Jody & Susan Folwell
DESCRIPTION:2-Day Pottery Workshop with Artists Jody & Susan Folwell\nJune 20-21\, 9:00 am –4:00 pm \nJody Folwell has long been one of the important innovators in Pueblo pottery. She is a daughter of Rose Naranjo\, sister of Michael Naranjo\, and the mother of potters Polly Rose Folwell and Susan Folwell. Her pottery can be found in museums around the country and her work has been featured in numerous books\, including “The Art of Clay” and “Legacy of Generations”. Her revolutionary work of the 1970’s changed the surface of Santa Clara pottery with her distinctive firings\, use of various clay slips\, and utilizing non-traditional design elements.  Creative patina and a wide variety of subject matter in her designs\, not only follow elements of traditional Pueblo subjects but reach out to current events of the world.  Today\, Jody continues to evolve in her art and each piece brings together different aspects of her long history of making pottery.
