DESCRIPTION:3-Day Oil-Studion Workshop with Chris Groves / “Painting the Sunrise and Sunset – From Classical to Contemporary”\nWednesday\, September 10 – Friday\, September 12\, 2025\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM\n \nThis class will merge both Classical and Contemporary methods in the painting of a Sunrise or Sunset. Beginning with a lecture on color theory in order to select an intentional palette\, to a discussion on design and composition to create specific emotion and mood. Understanding how to convert incorrect colors from a photograph to Mark-making and Movement Styles such as Tonalism\, Impressionism\, and Abstraction\, will be heavily discussed and demoed as a way for each student to find his/her chosen process and path to painting this time of day. A small\, medium\, and larger size painting with be demoed throughout the 3 days. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday – Friday\, August 27 – August 29\, 2025 | 9:00 am –4:00 pm\n3-Day Painting Workshop with Derek Penix / “Loosen’ Up”  \nThis workshop is for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Derek will cover topics such as the power of warms and cools\, complementaries\, harmony\, edges\, shape-quality\, variety\, simplifying\, loosening brushwork\,  elements of design\, elements of light and shadow\, the power of suggestion and seeing in terms of mass and shape relationships. There will be a strong emphasis on making your paintings more three-dimensional.  Students will use oils (other mediums are welcome) to paint from photos. They will have a choice of dozens of photographs consisting of boats\, cityscapes\, figures\, birds\, hanging fruit and fish. Students will also have the option to paint from their own photos if they choose.  The first half of the day Derek will paint from a photo to demonstrate his process from start to finish. The second half of the day the students will paint with Derek’s guidance. DESCRIPTION:3-Day Figure Painting Workshop with Seth Haverkamp / “Energized Start\, Graceful Finish”\nWednesday-Friday\, June 18-20\, 2025\n9:00 am –4:00 pm\n \nIn this workshop\, students will work from a live model to vigorously apply paint in simplified blocks to capture the gesture of the pose. Using a limited palette\, students will paint with both thin and thick paint\, in conjunction with wiping paint out\, to achieve a successful drawing. Students will then work on pushing values to paint in the fall of light and add a three dimensional effect. Using a grey toned canvas with paint scumbled over it\, with thick paint in the lighter areas\, a fully realized figure can be achieved. DESCRIPTION:3-Day Workshop with Artist Michele Usibelli / “Techniques & Composition for Dramatic Paintings”\nWednesday – Friday\, April 9 – 11\, 2025\, 9:00 am –4:00 pm\n \nJoin this intensive 3-day workshop and discover approaches and techniques for creating dynamic paintings. Incorporating the design elements of Composition/Design\, Value\, Color\, Paint Application and more\, Michele will guide you through her painting process from concept to completion. The workshop will begin with an abbreviated lecture on the principles of design and composition.  Michele will reinforce these lessons through demonstrations and one-on-one instruction. Students will experience and study all aspects of painting from life\, to photographs\, even plein air\, weather permitting! Students should bring photographs\, field studies\, and plein air paintings from which to work. DESCRIPTION:3-Day Watercolor Workshop with Artist Dylan Scott Pierce / “Capturing the Soul”\nThursday – Saturday\, April 3 – 5\, 2025\, 9:00 am –4:00 pm\n \nDylan will guide the class in how to capture the beauty and unique character of the animal while conveying a mood and message in the painting. Various watercolor techniques will be demonstrated to achieve realistic textures unique to each animal.  Using sketches to establish a synchronized order of importance\, Dylan will explain how to make artistic decisions to create and effective composition\, to communicate what is important to the viewer. Also\, Dylan will demonstrate how  using color studies will help discover unexpected ways of expressing ones message.  Principles of creating depth and realism will also be demonstrated.
