KSU – OLLI – The Civil War in the Far West – Continuing Education and Professional Development
November 29, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 5:30pm on Thursday, repeating until January 1, 2019
Military campaigns of the Civil War were fought far west of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, even further west than Texas. Few recognize the significance of the struggle that extended into the Western Territories and to California. Confederate leaders had plans to create a corridor from the Rio Grands to the Pacific coast and south into Northern Mexico. Their far range plans included a sympathetic Spanish speaking population and Western Indian tribes that would aid their cause directly or indirectly in establishing those goals and defeating Union forces along the way. Those plans failed yet would leave us with a kaleidoscope of historical events that would eventually shape the American West. The registration fee for this course includes a tour of the Booth Western Art Museum. For more information or to register –cpe.kennesaw.edu// or call 470-578-6765. Instructor: Gerald Flinchum.
