3-Day Oil Painting Workshop with Artist Krystii Melaine / “Learning to See Accurately and Paint Creatively”
August 28-30, 9:00 am –4:00 pm
Learning to see with the eyes of an artist allows you to interpret any subject accurately in oil paint. Understanding how to analyze form, light, tones, colors, and edges from life will help you to paint the depth of the real subject when working from photos. Krystii will demonstrate two ways to start a painting – sight-size from life or a gridded drawing from a photo. Then she shows how to break the subject down into easily analyzed segments, painting alla prima and finishing each area as you work. Light falling on planes, color mixing, handling edges and more will be demonstrated in ways that are easy to understand. You can also try tools and techniques to add abstract elements to your paintings. Students can choose to paint from a still life in the studio, or work from their own reference photos of animals, people, or objects. (No landscapes please.) All levels are welcome with individual instruction tailored to your needs. A visit to the Booth Museum to discuss Krystii’s three life-size portraits of Native Americans is included. This will be a workshop packed with information, ideas, and inspiration to take your paintings and creativity to the next level from wherever you are now!
Minimum of 8 students, Maximum of 15 students
FEE: $550.00 for Booth Museum Members, $625.00 for not-yet-members
