SUMMARY:BAA 4-Day Workshop with Artist Kami Mendlick / "The Shape of Water: Painting the Illusion of Water Reflections with Oil Paints"
DESCRIPTION:4-Day Workshop with Artist Kami Mendlick/ “The Shape of Water: Painting the Illusion of Water Reflections with Oil Paints”\nThursday\, March 5 – Sunday\, March 8\, 2025\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nThis 4-day studio workshop will focus on painting realistic water with deep reflections. Learn Kami’s approach to creating beautiful water and the roll light plays in the scene\, as she shares her techniques used in painting water by employing shapes of color.  You will learn her approach to building a painting beginning  with graphing the image from both a plein air study and a photo reference\, then building with a wash\, followed by building up thicker paint. Each morning will begin with a lecture and a painting demonstration\, progressively moving the painting each morning\, building on each concept. As she moves through this process\, she will be emphasizing the importance of seeing one shape of color and how it relates to another — Color Relativity\, creating the illusion of light and atmosphere in the scene. Students are recommended to work form both photo references and plein air studies. The main purpose of this workshop is to provide tools and steps in studying and painting water in your paintings. Although\, it’s always more satisfying to have your won original concept\, the main purpose of this week is to arm you with information to take home and integrate into your own paintings. Kami will provide additional reference material to use\, if needed. There will be ample time to paint with critiques and feedback throughout the week. \nMinimum of 8 students\, Maximum of 16 students\nFEE: $700.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $775.00 for not-yet-members. \nTo learn more about the Booth Art Academy\, CLICK HERE.

SUMMARY:BAA 4-Day Workshop with Artist Regina Lyubovnaya / "Logic of Painting"
DESCRIPTION:4-Day Workshop with Artist Regina Lyubovnaya / “Logic of Painting”\nWednesday\, March 11 – Saturday\, March 14\, 2026\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nIn this course\, we will approach still-life and portrait painting not from the perspective of technique or dogma\, but from a multiplicity of choices. Our focus will be on understanding why certain approaches are more effective and beautiful than others. We will learn to identify the task before us and view it as a field of open possibilities\, recognizing that there is always more than one way to solve it. To paint with logic and understanding is to remain open and receptive. Simple being told how to solve a problem is just following someone else’s steps. I will explain how painting solutions emerge from an understand and perception of light\, space and form. By employing value\, color\, edges\, brushstrokes and paint quality\, we can translate visual information into beautiful paintings that are guided by our visual aesthetic ideas. \nMinimum of 8 students\, Maximum of 16 students\nFEE: $725.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $800.00 for not-yet-members. \nTo learn more about Booth Art Academy\, CLICK HERE.

SUMMARY:BAA 4-Day Portrait Workshop with Artist Michelle Dunaway / "Capturing the Essence"
DESCRIPTION:4-Day Portrait Workshop with Artist Michelle Dunaway / “Capturing the Essence”\nMonday\, March 16 – Thursday\, March 19\, 2026\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nDuring this four day intensive workshop\, Michelle will lecture\, demonstrate her painting techniques\, and provide one-on-one instruction as students paint form life. The class will focus on Alla Prima painting\, covering everything from composition and color mixing of skin tones to more advanced techniques such as color temperature which gives the visual illusion of the subject receding or coming forward in space. The beautiful intricacies of edges and brushwork will be a main focus as a way to lead the eye through the composition\, making punctuations in paint and resting spots for the eye. This tool can be observed in nature and portrayed in paint to evoke emotion and rhythms in the painting. The class will do three paintings over the four days: two head studies and a two-day pose that covers advanced techniques for capturing a likeness\, painting hands\, and placing the sitter in an environment. Michelle will also do a slideshow of her work\, including step-by-step photographs of her more elaborate finished studio work\, while discussing things to keep in mind when taking a study back into the studio to make a completed work for the gallery. Beginner to advanced students are welcome as Michelle will work one-on-one with each student to help them achieve their next level in painting and give students specific guidance to meet their individual artistic goals. \nMinimum of 10 students\, Maximum of 20 students\nFEE: $775.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $850.00 for not-yet-members \nTo learn more about the Booth Art Academy\, CLICK HERE.

SUMMARY:BAA 3-Day Workshop with Artist Ann Larsen / "Field Sketch to Finished Painting - An Impressionist Approach"
DESCRIPTION:3-Day Workshop with Artist Ann Larsen / “Field Sketch to Finished Painting – An Impressionist Approach”\nFriday\, March 20 – Sunday\, March 22\, 2026\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nThis workshop is designed for students wishing to loosen their style and capture light\, color and the “impressionistic” moment in their larger paintings. Working up to a larger painting takes planning that differs from a field sketch or small color study. We will focus on how to complete a large painting from smaller work completed plein air or in the studio. The greatest success with a larger painting is in the planning process. I will work with each student to help them refine their sketches to get the most dynamic composition before they place any paint on their canvas. Emphasis will be on composing the painting\, getting down the large masses and quickly covering the canvas with the overall design before beginning to lay in heavier brushwork. Historical and contemporary artists’ work will be discussed as it pertains to strong composition\, value\, color and brushwork. As each student’s work progresses\, the use of edges to help move their viewers eye  through the painting will be demonstrated. \nMinimum of 8 students\, Maximum of 16 students.\nFEE: $525.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $600.00 for not-yet-members \nTo learn more about the Booth Art Academy\, CLICK HERE.

SUMMARY:BAA 5-Day Indoor Oil Workshop with Artist Jill Carver / "Aesthetic Principles for Landscape Design"
DESCRIPTION:5-Day Indoor Oil Workshop with Artist Jill Carver / “Aesthetic Principles for Landscape Design”\nMonday\, March 23 – Friday\, March 27\, 2026\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nJill will help you realize that design is truly where creativity exists!  Elevate your landscape paintings by exploring concept-driven design choices. Finding the balance of unity and variety between and within the elements of shape\, value\, and color\, is key to creating stronger paintings. We will be making those choices according to our subject matter and what we want to say about it. Setting an intention (establishing a concept) and then exploring your design choices\, using these ‘tools’\, will expand your vocabulary as a painter. The possibilities are endless! This is a design course that extends beyond compositional division and placement devices. It extends beyond thinking that landscape painting is an attempt to create a literal 3D rendering that the viewer can walk into.  Jill takes a more expansive view that a painting is a decorative 2D panel upon which we create an aesthetically pleasing arrangement of color shapes. Regardless of style\, regardless of detail-level\, I argue that aligning your composition with your concept (by managing unity and variety within shape\, value\, and color) is the essential step in moving forward with your work.  Jill will structure the workshop through set exercises\, lectures\, demos\, and brainstorming discussions. Students will be working from their own visual material as well as that provided. There will be an optional class dinner early in the week so that students can chat to Jill informally. \nNote: Advanced-beginner to advanced level painters. You must be an experienced and regular painter to fully benefit from this class. \nMinimum of 10 students\, Maximum of 15 students\nFEE: $750.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $825.00 for not-yet-members \nTo learn more about the Booth Art Academy\, CLICK HERE.
