SUMMARY:BAA 3-Day Painting Workshop with Shanna Kunz / "The Art of Less: Simplifying for Stronger Paintings"
DESCRIPTION:3-Day Painting Workshop with Shanna Kunz / “The Art of Less: Simplifying for Stronger Paintings”\nThursday\, September 24 – Saturday\, September 26\, 2026\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nThis workshop will explore design and color composition in plein air and/or studio painting. Some experience with your medium is required\, though all levels are welcome! Shanna will be working in oil with linen panels. We will simplify the process of design and create a dramatic landscape with emotional subtleties and compressed value ranges while maintaining the illusion of reality. What you will learn: Simplify and abstract your shapes and make sense out of all the information screaming for your attention. Organize your composition into simplified masses and value patterns for a more organized design\, while creating the spatial relationships that create the three-dimensional illusion that helps you feel like you can walk into the painting. Learn how to make a series of work to explore different emotions in each piece. Choose a ground color and block-in that serve as a pattern to create an emotional composition with a dynamic statement and rhythm. Create depth with the use of temperature shifts and a variety of edges\, gently moving your audience  through the painting while keeping their attention where you want it to be. Work with brushes and palette knives to create variations of thick and thin textures. Personal instruction and guidance will be provided. Shanna will guide you through the decision-making process from the very beginning of your painting. She will help you learn to choose and enhance your theme\, and to identify palette choices that make your painting more engaging. You will use brushes\, palette knives and glazes to develop your authentic style. She will also introduce the concept of dynamic symmetry and shape placement. \nMinimum of 8 students\, maximum of 16 students\nFEE: $500.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $575.00 for not-yet-members \nTo learn more about the Booth Art Academy\, CLICK HERE.

SUMMARY:BAA 3-Day Painting Workshop with Artist Gavin Glakas / "Cityscape (and Landscape) Painting from the Studio"
DESCRIPTION:3-Day Painting Workshop with Artist Gavin Glakas / “Cityscape (and Landscape) Painting from the Studio”\nWednesday\, September 30 – Friday\, October 2\, 2026\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nGavin Glakas teaches in a way that is simple to understand\, straightforward\, and open to artists of any and all styles and creative goals.  He will teach you to paint dynamic\, exciting landscapes and cityscapes from the studio where we’ll use photos as the starting point in our journey\, not the finish line.  Gavin will simplify concepts like composition\, design\, color\, depth\, edges\, linear perspective\, and how (and when!) to paint details. He will also teach you the really important stuff: how to apply paint\, which brushes to use in which situations\, where and when to use medium\, how to paint with that palette knife\, how to achieve certain looks like crisp edges\, blending\, layering\, and anything else that begins with the phrase\, “How do you? . . “.   Gavin will help you give your work mood\, atmosphere\, and feeling\, and make the process of painting more fun and creative than simply trying to reproduce a photograph.  Students will work from their own photos to complete one (or more) finished paintings and Gavin will paint a demo painting to show students every aspect of the process.\nNote: Students are free to use any materials or medium (including watercolor\, acrylic\, ink\, digital\, etc.) but Gavin will be working in oil.\n\nMinimum of 8 students\, Maximum of 16 students\nFEE:  $6600.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $735.00 for not-yet-members\n\nTo learn more about the Booth Art Academy\, CLICK HERE.
