DESCRIPTION:3-Day Oil-Studion Workshop with Chris Groves / “Painting the Sunrise and Sunset – From Classical to Contemporary”\nWednesday\, September 10 – Friday\, September 12\, 2025\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM\n \nThis class will merge both Classical and Contemporary methods in the painting of a Sunrise or Sunset. Beginning with a lecture on color theory in order to select an intentional palette\, to a discussion on design and composition to create specific emotion and mood. Understanding how to convert incorrect colors from a photograph to Mark-making and Movement Styles such as Tonalism\, Impressionism\, and Abstraction\, will be heavily discussed and demoed as a way for each student to find his/her chosen process and path to painting this time of day. A small\, medium\, and larger size painting with be demoed throughout the 3 days. SUMMARY:BAA 3-Day Workshop with Christine Lashley / "Luminous Landscapes"
DESCRIPTION:3-Day Workshop with Christine Lashley / “Luminous Landscapes”\nWednesday\, September 24 – Friday\, September 26\, 2025\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nCreate art filled with light! Christine is well know for her striking paintings that often include night lights and city scenes\, however\, the principles taught in this workshop apply to daytime scenes as well with glittering water and atmospheric luminosity. In this workshop students will learn to create a strong composition plus explore the creativity of abstraction and loose brushwork. At least one demo will be an urban street scene with figures and buildings. Tips for easy perspective\, landscape layer techniques\, and exercises to promote better design will give students creative freedom to transform a ho-hum scene into something special. \nChristine teaches a flexible to creating art with special techniques for achieving loose brushwork and clean colors. Daily demos in oil with some thumbnail sketch demos in watercolor. Students will learn how to apply wet layers and non-toxic (solvent-free) way to use oil paints. Workshop includes demos\, lectures and one-on-one instruction. This workshop is geared to oil painters\, but students may work in any media and do not need both oil and watercolor to participate. Oil painters please note that this workshop will be run SOLVENT-FREE. No Gamesol\, Turpenoid\, Spike Lavender oil\, etc. will be used. Christine will teach you how to paint without solvent. The stories and work of Women photographers represented in the Booth Collection —historical\, contemporary\, and newly acquired — will be of particular emphasis. \nLunch will be available for $15.00 plus tax. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 17 – Sunday\, October 19\, 2025\n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nDo you ever wonder why your still-life composition looks flat or even underwhelming?   Fortunately\, there are simple guidelines to help improve your compositions and make them exciting to the viewer. In this 3-day workshop we will explore the key elements of an impactful composition.  I will start a demo while I let you in on the three simple secrets to a better painting. I will focus on how to paint brass\, copper\, and silver effects. Students can paint from their own photos or from one of the many I will bring.  After lunch you will start your own underpainting and drawing and begin the painting process.  There will be discussion on brush strokes and blending techniques.  Students will receive individual attention and daily critiques.  My goal is to have you complete a painting that you will be proud of and use as a learning tool for future works. \nMinimum of 5 students\, Maximum of 15 students\nFEE:  $375.00 for Booth Museum Members\, $450.00 for not-yet-members \n  \nTo learn more about the Booth Art Academy\, CLICK HERE.
