Literacy Project
The Booth Western Art Museum is developing a new pilot program for students in Kindergarten through 4th grade that utilizes the museum’s collection to enhance literacy skills. The program will be developed by museum educators, classroom teachers and reading specialists and offer an approach to building reading and writing skills by drawing parallels between reading, writing and art based on the works of art in the Museum’s collection.
The Education Department is seeking applications from teachers interested in assisting in the development of the program. Classroom teachers, media specialists, ESOL teachers, reading specialists, art specialists and curriculum directors from the City of Cartersville, Bartow County, Gordon County and Cobb County School Systems are encouraged to apply.
Five teachers will be selected to assist with the development of the program and paid a stipend for a contracted number of hours with a minimum of twenty hours. A meeting schedule will be developed by the group with Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings or some summer meetings most likely. These sessions will take place at the Booth Western Art Museum.
Please contact Lisa Wheeler if you have questions. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, March 31st. Interested teachers should fill out the application and e-mail, mail or fax it to:
