Framing the Future: Current Members of the CAA
June 26 – August 30, 2015 – Temporary Exhibition Gallery
This exhibition features one new work by each of the current CAA members that will be in the group’s 50th Annual Sale & Exhibition to be held in October 2015 in Oklahoma City.
Blazing the Trail: The Cowboy Artists of America
June 26 – October 26, 2015 – Special Exhibition Gallery
A retrospective exhibition featuring one or more works by nearly every artist who was ever a member of the CAA, drawn from the collections of Booth Western Art Museum and its members.
Cowboy Artists Sketching the West
June 1-27, 2015 – Booth Atrium
An exhibition featuring the catalog sketch by each of the current CAA members that will be in the group’s 50th Annual Sale & Exhibition catalog. Opening Weekend Events
Thursday, June 25:
6:00 pm: Welcome Dinner and Exhibition Sneak Preview for Artists, Sponsors & Booth Upper Level Members (VIP event) at Booth Museum. Enjoy an evening of cocktails, a Southern dinner, and entertainment by Jim Dunham and Tom Kerlin. At 8:00 pm, be the first to see the Blazing the Trail and Framing the Future exhibitions.
Friday, June 26: A Day with the Artists
9:00 am: Golf Tournament with the Cowboy Artists at Woodland Hills Golf Club
- 18 hole scramble format – each group plays at least one hole with each artist present
- $100 per person, includes golf, cart, range balls, lunch, non-alcoholic beverages
- $25 per person mulligan package, includes two mulligans and entry into the putting contest
10:00 am: Sporting Clays Shoot with the Cowboy Artists at SpringBank Sporting Club at Barnsley Resort
- 100 shot scramble format – each group shoots at least one station with each artist present
- $100 per person, includes shooting stations, clay targets, lunch, non-alcoholic beverages
- $25 per person mulligan package, includes two mulligans and entry into the raffle drawing
10:00 am: Local History Tour & Southern Lunch
- Themed bus tours of historical sites in Bartow County, choose your theme
- Antebellum homes
- People and places of the Civil War
- $100 per person, includes motor coach, tour guides, all admissions, lunch, gratuities, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks while on tour.
5:30 pm: CAA 50th Reunion BBQ Dinner
Enjoy a family style BBQ dinner in the Booth Ballroom with selections from Bartow County’s best BBQ restaurants. Brisket and pulled pork with sauces from Johnny Mitchell’s Smokehouse, Brunswick stew and BBQ chicken with sauces from Scott’s Walk-Up BBQ, coleslaw from Adam’s BBQ, plus bread, peach cobbler, and chocolate sheet cake. An open bar and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.
7:30 pm: Red Steagall & Friends Concert
The Grand Ole Opry comes to Cartersville! Experience the sounds of six entertainers at the historic Grand Theatre. The show will feature Georgia’s Cowboy Poet Jerry Warren, Merry and Bill Nebeker (CAA Member), Oreland Joe (CAA Member), the Tumbleweed Cowboy Band, and Red Steagall & the Boys in the Bunkhouse! Doors open at 6:30 pm.
Saturday, June 27:
9:00 am – 10:15 am: Book and Poster Signing with Cowboy Artists
Join us at the Grand Threatre and meet the artists in attendance. Have them sign the FREE official souvenir event poster and The Sons of Charlie Russell: Fifty Years of the Cowboy Artists of America book ($95.00 + tax).
10:30 am – 3:30 pm: Cowboy Artists of America 50 Year Symposium
Lectures/panel discussions on CAA history and future with artists, dealers, collectors, curators, and writers.
Tickets are $25 per person and includes all lectures.
- 10:30 am – Noon: Laughs and Laments: The Early Years of the CAA
Featuring Byron Price, Jody Beeler, Fred Fellows, and Bill Rey.
- Noon – 1:30 pm: Lunch on Your Own
Enjoy lunch at the Booth Museum Cafe or at any of our local downtown restaurants.
- 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm: Personalities and Patronage: The Artist/Collector Relationship
Featuring Ruth Kaspar, Bobby Hillin, Martin Grelle, and John Coleman.
- 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Accessing Importance: Did the Cowboy Artists Save Representational Art?
Featuring Jerry Smith, William Whitaker, and Susan Hallsten McGarry.
6:00 pm: Celebrating 50 Years of the CAA Banquet
$150 per person, includes cocktail reception with the artists, gourmet dinner, open bar, opportunity to bid in sketch auction and keynote address by a Western art scholar.
Sunday, June 28:
9:00 am – 11:30 am: Farewell Brunch for Artists, Sponsors & Booth Upper Level Members (VIP event). Say farewell in style at the home of a local collector for a Chuck Wagon Brunch.
