Booth Western Art Museum is excited to host the Society of Animal Artists 53rd Annual Art and the Animal exhibition this summer. Opening on May 3 and running through September 7, the exhibit will be comprised of approximately 60 masterworks featuring creatures from around the world by today’s best animal painters and sculptors.

The Society of Animal Artists, an association of animal and wildlife artists founded in 1960, annually hosts a juried competition for its members. The selected works are typically comprised of about 45 flatworks and 15 sculptures and will travel to museums around the country. The Booth is proud to be the only museum in the southeastern United States to welcome the 2014 show.

On the evening of May 3, Booth Museum Members and guests are invited to an Exhibition Opening Reception and Evening Lecture. The exhibition, Art and the Animal, will be open to the public and on view. Refreshments will be served in the Booth Ballroom from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. At 7:00 pm in Bergman Theatre, wildlife sculptor Kent Ullberg will talk about his involvement with the Society of Animal Artists and his illustrious career.

On Wednesday, May 7, museum members and guests are invited to an Art for Lunch program featuring Georgia artist and Society of Animal Artists member Kathleen Ryan. During the program, Ryan will discuss her artistic career and involvement with this year’s Art and the Animal exhibition. Following the program, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the exhibit, including Ryan’s piece My First Rodeo.
